Six people in the UAE attacked a cryptocurrency expert whose tips caused them to lose $30 million.

According to the Khaleej Times, the victim admitted he had advised the group to invest in an unspecified cryptocurrency, and a few days later, their assets grew to $100 million. However, soon the coin rate fell to zero, and investors lost all their savings.

Later, the group contacted the expert again to somehow compensate for their losses. He advised them on a new digital currency, which had not yet been officially launched. The investors set up an online trading platform, but 15 minutes later, the website was hacked, and the asset dropped in price.

According to the case file, the attackers broke into the man and his wife's villa. They stole $200,000, two smartphones, three watches, and a diamond ring worth 390,000 dirhams (more than $106,000). While threatening to kill the man, the assailants also demanded to return the $30 million they had lost.

UAE court convicted all six men of robbery and sentenced them to six months in prison.
