Disney will support the development of Polygon
One of the world's largest entertainment media conglomerates has put Polygon's sidechain on its list of projects to support development in 2022.
According to the studio's official website, each project on the list will receive some sort of "recommendation" from senior Disney executives. In the future, it is possible to obtain funding or develop joint projects.
The studio also said it is focusing on projects that offer entirely new approaches to storytelling in physical, digital, and virtual worlds. In addition to Polygon, five other companies are also in the Disney gas pedal, two of which, Flickplay and Lockerverse, are focused on Web3.
“For nearly a century, Disney has been at the forefront of leveraging technology to build the entertainment experiences of the future,” said Bonnie Rosen, General Manager of the Disney Accelerator program. “The Disney Accelerator is thrilled to be part of that legacy, and with our newest class of companies, we look forward to furthering our commitment to innovation and continuing to bring magical experiences to Disney audiences and guests for the next 100 years.”
Recall that in November 2021, Disney started working on its own meta-universe. Disney's ambitious plans came on the back of dismal growth figures. In the last months of 2021, the number of Disney+ subscribers grew to 118.1 million, which is one and a half million fewer than analysts' expectations. Moreover, there was also a drop in profits in the direct sales, television, and amusement park segments.
