Money was invested in the Epic Games game developer, best known for its Fortnite game.

As the developer reports, the investment round will help the company create new "social entertainment" experiences in both the digital and physical worlds.

As a creative entertainment company, we are thrilled to invest in Epic to deepen our relationship in the metaverse field, a space where creators and users share their time.” said Kenichiro Yoshida, Chairman, President and CEO, Sony Group Corporation. “We are also confident that Epic’s expertise, including their powerful game engine, combined with Sony’s technologies, will accelerate our various efforts such as the development of new digital fan experiences in sports and our virtual production initiatives.”

The Epic head said that most of the investment will be spent on creating metaverse and spaces where players can "have fun with friends, brands can craft unique and immersive experiences, and creators can develop communities and thrive."

However, there are still no further details about the upcoming metaverse.
