New MetaMask scam appears on the Internet

Unknown users send e-mails demanding verification in MetaMask, threatening to block the wallets if ignored.

Andrey Podolyan, CEO of Cryptorg, told RBC-Crypto that he witnessed such letters received by users. According to his words, users massively got e-mails that allegedly were sent by MetaMask crypto wallet developers demanding to pass a verification procedure. Otherwise, their account would be blocked. Attackers send such emails in order to take over the user's account, so you shouldn't reply to these mailings.

Note that MetaMask has nothing to do with Meta (formerly Facebook). This is a software cryptocurrency wallet for storing ETH and other cryptocurrencies issued in the Ethereum blockchain. The wallet was developed in 2016 by ConsenSys. Registration in MetaMask does not require entering an email address, so the wallet developers have no possibility to send such mailings to their users.
