The National Bank of Kazakhstan to introduce innovations from the DeFi sector

So far, the Central Bank has no plans to legalize digital assets, yet the regulator is interested in using innovations from the DeFi sphere.

As the chairman of the National Bank of Kazakhstan, Galymzhan Pirmatov reported at the briefing, the employees of the organization have been very active in adopting cryptocurrency innovations. In his opinion, now there is an opportunity to modernize the financial network of the state using technological innovations.

Regarding the question about cryptocurrency legalization, the head of the regulator said that it is still too soon to talk about it and that discussions with the market will still take place. The official noted that the decisions taken should not negatively affect the macrostability and interests of the consumers of financial services.

Pirmatov also said that Kazakhstan is working on launching a digital form of the national currency (tenge). The project development methodology should be announced by the end of June, and the final decision on the currency launch will be made by the end of 2022.
